Debate scholarships are awarded to a select number of incoming undergraduate students interested in participating in the HPU debate program, as well as graduate students who have demonstrated a past record of debate achievement and success and who wish to continue debate and serving as an assistant debate coach. Applicants should exhibit superior speech and/or debate ability and must be able to demonstrate a record of past achievements that indicate a strong potential for intercollegiate debate success. Scholarship students will participate in Debate Society events such as the Mixed Plate Debates, the Pan Pacific Championship, the Island Debate invitational and scrimmages with local teams. Students will also be obligated to write research briefs and be an advocate for debate in the HPU community. Priority consideration for available debate scholarships will be given to those who submit their admissions application and Debate application as soon as possible, but no later than the Round 1 priority deadline, December 1, 2020.
